Yangon – Kyaing Tong (Trekking) – Heho (4 D /3 N)

Brief Itinerary

Kyaing Tong

For tourists looking for an “off the beaten track” tour and looking for light trekking, this is the right tour. Only a few western people have explored the Eastern Shan State, which opened for tourism only recently. It is tucked away in the far Eastern corner of this Eastern Shan State - 170 km. north of Tachileik, a border town at the Myanmar - Thai border. Kyaing Tong is a sleepy, but historic and important, town. It is surrounded by the villages of the Khun, lquor (Akha), Ann and Lahu hill tribes, built around a small lake and dotted with old Buddhist temples and crumbling British colonial architecture. Kyaing Tong is probably the most scenic town in the Shan State. This tour is highly recommended for people who are able to trek uphill and downhill for about two hours. There is no climbing involved!

Day – 01: Flight to Kyaing Tong(Eastern Shan State)

You will take a flight a 3-hour flight from Yangon to Kyaing Tong in the Eastern Shan State. You will be transferred to your hotel where you will check in. You will start your sightseeing in the town of Kyaing Tong and will climb to the top of Lone Tree Hill (a great place for photos because of its excellent view), visit a Shan lacquer-ware shop and enjoy the scenery at Naung Tong Lake. Spend the night in Kyaing Tong.

Day – 02: Trekking to hill tribe villages(To the Akha)
After breakfast, you will start your tour by visitting to the villages of the Khun-hill tribe, the Lahu-hill tribe and the Palaung-tribe. You can watch the tribes-people produce rice wine in the traditional technique in of the Wan Kwang Village. Then, you will start hiking to the Akha (Iquor) tribal village and to one of the few existing Ann-hill tribal villages. You will enjoy a picnic-lunch at the Pin Tauk-waterfall. Later in the day, you will return back to Kyaing Tong. Spend the night in Kyaing Tong.

Day – 03: Visit Palaung villages(Another Day Trekking)
After breakfast, you will start your tour by visitting to the villages of the Khun-hill tribe, the Lahu-hill tribe and the Palaung-tribe. You can watch the tribes-people produce rice wine in the traditional technique in of the Wan Kwang Village. Then, you will start hiking to the Akha (Iquor) tribal village and to one of the few existing Ann-hill tribal villages. You will enjoy a picnic-lunch at the Pin Tauk-waterfall. Day – 04: Flight to Heho(Return Trip)
After breakfast, you will stroll through Kyaing Tong bazaar and congregate with the people of the hill tribes adorned in their colorful and traditional tribal clothing. Then you will go to Maha Myat Muni (which is Kyaing Tong’s most beautiful pagoda) and to Zoam-Taung (which is Kyaing Tong’s tallest pagoda). Last, but not least, you will visit a traditional pottery workshop. You will then be transferred to the airport for the flight to Heho.
