Golf in Myanmar

Golf is a passion to many people, especially in Asia and particular in Myanmar ( Burma ). Some of the best golf courses in the world are the Pun Hlaing Golf Club in Yangon designed by Gary Player and the Bagon Golf Resort in Bagan , as well as some of the others in Myanmar , which are listed below. Golf has played since colonial times in Myanmar . The British established the first golf club in Rangon in 1909 at the Yangon Golf Club today. It is a first rate, very challenging course where the Asian PGA tour is a regularly played. Other Myanmar Golf Clubs and Myanmar Golf Courses are :

Yangon City Golf Resort

Yangon City Golf Resort is a 30 minutes' drive from downtown Yangon. There are two 18- holes courses which are: the. Ngwe Taw Tar (Silver) Course, opened in 1994 with 7000 yards in total range and Myakantha (Pondy) course opened in 1996 with 6,208 yards range. Both courses were designed by Yangon City Development Committee. Because they were also designed by Han Golf Master (a company related to Myanmar's PGA Pro "Kyi Hla Han") these are considered to be among the best courses in Myanmar. Unofficially , it's ranked second after Pun Hlaing ( which is renowned for its well maintained fairways and greens ).City Golf Club has hosted APGA Tours two times - in 1998 and 1999

Pun Hlaing Golf Club (Yangon)

Pun Hlaing Golf Club is a 30 minutes drive from downtown and is 20 minutes from the airport. The course was designed by golf lenged,Gary Player. This beautiful 18- hole championship golf course is considered to be one of Asia's most outstanding golf course and its considered number one in Myanmar with its well groomed fairways and greens. Because it is very new course with mostly palm trees, the lack of shade is a drawback for the golfers who can not get up early.

Yangon Golf Club

Yangon Golf Club is about 30 minutes drive from downtown Yangon.This 18-hole course was founded since 1909 and is one of the oldest golf club in Myanmar. The total range is 7,063 yards and the fairways are lined with matured trees, offering welcomed shade. This is a classic, natural course which no golfer should miss playing. It is considered the best course for the golfers who love nature. It has recently hosted APGA Tours in January, 2000.

Yemon Island Golf Club (Yangon)

Yemon Island Golf Club is and 18 -hole course of with a total range of 6,533 yards , and it is about one hour drive from downtown Yangon on the way to Bago. It is like a city retreat where golfers can enjoy an overnight golf during weekends. Rooms there are very simple and facilities are very basic (no electricity at night), so we do not recommended it for an overnight stay. Although its built around a large beautiful lake, the fairways are very dry due to poor maintenance.

Bagan Golf Resort , which is located in Nyaung Oo , is about 10 minutes drive from the Bagan archeological zone and about 5 minutes from the air port. This 18-hole course of 7,147 Yards was opened in 1999. Unlike other golf courses, it is located in the middle of the world-famous Bagan temples and pagodas. You can imagine the feeling of awe when playing golf among these 1,000 years old temples. As Bagan itself is located in a hot zone, playing golf there is a bit hot during the afternoon. So, the best time is to play in the early morning. Then, you can enjoy both the view of the temples and the cool atmosphere of the morning air.

Popa Mountain Golf Resort is a beautiful 9-holes course which is about 45 minutes drive from Bagan/ Nyaung U Airport and it is located on Mt. Popa. Known as Myanmar's Mt. Olympus about 5,000 ft. above sea level. The natural springs, flowers, mature trees and wooded hillsides greatly contrast to the arid lands surrounding it and, therefore, it is called the "oasis of the dry zone". The climate is also totally different from neighboring Bagan.

This beautiful 9 holes course is located right on the beach. Actually it has 18 holes but due to the poor maintenance, only 9 holes are in good condition. But fairways are very dry due to lack of water. If you are interested in investing in a golf course, this is the good chance for you. You can talk to the authority concerned for detail procedure. As Ngapali beach is a very beautiful natural white sand beach, this golf course can become a world class golf course.
