Sittwe
is the capital of Rakkhine State. It was
once known as Arakan, the Rakkhine State
on the western coast facing the Bay of
Bangal was an ancient kingdom that the
2nd Century Greek Cartographies Ptolemy
called " Argyre ".Sittwe is a busy
report that has plenty of traditional
houses along the waterfront. It also has
monasteries with a mix of European and
Traditional Architecture.
The Rakkhine cultural Museum and the
Kantharyar Beach Report are the most
interesting places in Sittwe.
Mrauk U

Mrauk U is a 15th Century ruined city of Rakkhine Kingdom and is
known for its old temples with paintings that were influence by
Indian Cultural.It is located northeast of Sittwe. With its fortress
- like temples Mrauk U is a site that has a cultural importance that
is comparable to that of Bagan. The Mahamuni Shrine, which is one of
the famous Pagoda in Myanmar, is situated 30 km. from Mrauk U. The
Koethaung Pagoda Stands on a plain of rice fields."Koethaung" means
"90,000" and probably signified the number of Buddha image that it
was supposed to contained. Dukkanthein Pagoda is located about 300
feet to the northwest of Shitthaung Pagoda. Andawthein Shrine is
another monyment to see in Mrauk U.

Ngapali Beach

Located on the
Rakkhine Coast near Thandwe (Sandoway).
Ngapali is one of the beautiful beaches
in Myanmar. This unspoiled beach is a 35
minute fligh from Yangon. By land, it is
14 hour drive along the narrow winding
road over the Rakkhine Yoma (mountain
range) after crossing the Ayeyarwaddy

traditional wares including:pottery,
baked and woven goods as well as the
unusual fresh produce and fish.
